A probationary officer recruited through IBPS joins a public sector bank in Junior Management Grade Scale I on a basic of ₹48,480. With DA at 27.83%, the 26.5% special allowance and DA on it, metro HRA, transport and learning allowances, gross pay is about ₹85,064 a month and the in-hand figure after NPS and professional tax about ₹78,667. Most banks add a leased accommodation or HRA-in-lieu benefit, medical insurance and a furniture allowance that are not counted here. SBI POs start four increments higher.

Bank pay follows the 12th Bipartite Settlement between the Indian Banks’ Association and the unions (effective 1 November 2022), not the 7th CPC. Dearness allowance is revised every quarter against the CPI — 27.83% for August to October 2026, up from 25.70% — so the DA lines move four times a year. HRA is 10.25% of basic in metros, 9% in cities above 5 lakh and 7.5% elsewhere. Banks deduct NPS at 10%; some also deduct a small union or welfare subscription. Figures exclude the medical insurance and lease-rental benefits that vary by bank.

Increments of ₹2,000 for the first seven years, ₹2,340 for two, ₹2,680 for seven take the JMGS-I basic to its ceiling; fast-track promotion policies in most banks make Scale II possible within three years.
How to join
IBPS PO / MT (CRP PO): a bachelor’s degree, age 20–30, prelims, mains and an interview, with a two-year probation. A JAIIB/CAIIB qualification adds increments.
