IBPS clerk salary 2026: basic ₹24,050, what it comes to in hand
The 12th BPS pay scale, the quarterly DA, special allowance and HRA, the deductions, and the increments that take the basic to ₹64,480.
An IBPS clerk (Customer Service Associate) in a public sector bank starts on a basic of ₹24,050 under the 12th Bipartite Settlement. Add dearness allowance at 27.83%, the 26.5% special allowance with DA on it, metro HRA and transport allowance, and gross pay is about ₹42,205 a month; after NPS and professional tax about ₹38,931 reaches the account. Outside metros HRA is lower, so in-hand runs a little under this. SBI recruits its junior associates on the same scale with two advance increments, a ₹26,730 basic.

Bank pay follows the 12th Bipartite Settlement between the Indian Banks’ Association and the unions (effective 1 November 2022), not the 7th CPC. Dearness allowance is revised every quarter against the CPI — 27.83% for August to October 2026, up from 25.70% — so the DA lines move four times a year. HRA is 10.25% of basic in metros, 9% in cities above 5 lakh and 7.5% elsewhere. Banks deduct NPS at 10%; some also deduct a small union or welfare subscription. Figures exclude the medical insurance and lease-rental benefits that vary by bank.
Pay scale and increments
The clerical scale is ₹24,050 – 1,340/3 – 28,070 – 1,650/3 – 33,020 – 2,000/4 – 41,020 – 2,340/7 – 57,400 – 4,400/1 – 61,800 – 2,680/1 – 64,480: an increment of ₹1,340 for the first three years, ₹1,650 for the next three, and so on to the top of the scale after 19 years. Every allowance that is a percentage of basic rises with it.
Promotion path
Clerks move to officer cadre (JMGS-I, the same scale as a PO at ₹48,480 basic) through internal promotion exams, typically after two to three years of service with a JAIIB qualification; the fast track can reach Scale II–III within a decade. Alternatively, sitting IBPS PO from within the bank is common.
