Editorial policy

Tax content is worth only as much as the process behind it. This page sets out how rate pages on TaxGamma are researched, reviewed, updated and corrected, so you can judge how much weight to give them.

Sourcing

Rates are researched against current sources, in a deliberate order of preference.

  • CBIC notifications and Council decisions are the primary authority. Where a page states a specific rate change, it should be traceable to one.
  • Practitioner commentary that cites a specific notification is preferred over general summaries. This is not a stylistic preference. On more than one occasion a single practitioner citing a notification has been right where the general consensus was wrong, and following the crowd would have put a materially incorrect figure on this site.
  • Aggregator and SEO content is not treated as a source. It may indicate what people believe, but it is not evidence of what the law says.

Review before publication

Pages are written by the TaxGamma editorial team and reviewed by CA Amit Tripathi, a Chartered Accountant registered with ICAI, before they go live. The review covers the headline rate, the HSN or SAC classification, input tax credit treatment including Section 17(5) blocks, conditional rates and exemptions, and the arithmetic in worked examples and calculators.

The byline reflects this split honestly. Pages say written by TaxGamma and reviewed by CA Amit Tripathi, because that is what happened. We do not attribute authorship to a reviewer.

Handling source conflicts

Reputable sources sometimes disagree about a rate or a condition, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Where that happens, the page does one of two things.

  • Where the conflict is genuine and unresolved, the page presents both positions and tells you to confirm the point for your situation, rather than picking one and projecting false confidence.
  • Where one source cites a specific notification and the others do not, the sourced position is followed and the disagreement is noted.

A page carrying a known conflict is marked as such. If you find a page that states a contested position flatly, that is a defect and we would like to hear about it.

Updates and verification dates

Every rate page carries the date its rate was last verified. That date is not decoration: it tells you how much confidence the page has earned. GST rates change through notification and can change between one visit and the next, so a page verified nine months ago deserves more scepticism than one verified last week.

Pages are re-verified after any GST Council meeting that affects their category, and periodically otherwise. When a rate changes, the page is updated rather than left to rot.

Corrections

We will get things wrong. When that happens:

  • The page is corrected rather than quietly deleted.
  • Material corrections, meaning anything that changes a rate, a condition or an amount, are dated on the page itself.
  • Typographical fixes are made without ceremony.

Report anything that looks wrong to hello@taxgamma.com. A correction from a reader is more useful than a compliment.

Use of AI tools

AI tools are used in producing drafts and in generating the page templates behind this site. They are not treated as a source of tax law, and no page is published on the strength of an AI-generated rate alone. Every rate is checked against primary sources and reviewed by a Chartered Accountant before publication. The responsibility for what appears here is ours, not a tool's.

Independence

TaxGamma does not accept payment for coverage or for favourable treatment of any product, firm or service. No rate page is influenced by a commercial relationship. If the site takes advertising or affiliate revenue in future, it will be disclosed on the pages it affects rather than buried here.
