SSC GD constable salary 2026: Level 3 pay in CAPF and Delhi Police, in hand

A General Duty constable selected through SSC GD joins BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, Assam Rifles, the Secretariat Security Force or Delhi Police at Pay Level 3, basic ₹21,700. With DA at 60%, HRA and transport allowance the gross is about ₹46,990 a month in an X-class city — the figure widely quoted as the top of the SSC GD range — and the in-hand amount after NPS, CGHS and professional tax is about ₹43,068. In a Z-class posting it is about ₹35,848. Ration money allowance and, in border and insurgency areas, risk and hardship allowance are paid in addition.

SSC GD constable salary structure, 2026

All 7th CPC figures on this page use dearness allowance at 60% of basic, the rate in force from 1 January 2026; the July 2026 revision is normally announced in October and adds arrears. HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic by city class (X: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad). Transport allowance is the 7th CPC slab for the pay level plus DA on it. NPS is the employee’s 10% on basic plus DA; the government adds 14%, which is not shown because it is not pay. Professional tax is state-specific and shown at a typical ₹200.

CAPF allowances that are not in the table

• Ration money allowance, paid in cash to personnel not fed from a unit mess.
• Risk and hardship allowance under the 7th CPC matrix for border, high-altitude, counter-insurgency and similar postings — several thousand rupees a month depending on the cell.
• Dress allowance of ₹10,000 a year, paid in July.
• Free accommodation in barracks or family quarters where available (no HRA in that case), and CAPF medical cover.

Promotion path

Promotions are departmental, by seniority and qualifying tests; the constable-to-head-constable step usually takes several years. Delhi Police constables follow the same Level 3 scale with the Delhi Police promotion ladder.

How to join

SSC GD Constable: Class 10 pass, age 18–23 with relaxations, a computer-based exam, a physical efficiency and standards test, and a medical. It is a Group C, non-gazetted post. Women are recruited to the same scale.

The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted by notification on 3 November 2025 under Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with an 18-month mandate; its report is expected around mid-2027 and revised pay is conventionally effective from 1 January 2026 with arrears. Nothing on this page changes until that report is accepted — the fitment factor and new matrix are not yet decided, whatever a “8th CPC salary” headline claims.
